The Swedish translation of "The Accordionist's Son" has just been published (Bonniers Förlag, 2008). Early reviews coming out of Sweden are positive.
Swedish publisher Bonniers Förlag has just released the Swedish translation of The Accordionist's Son under the title "Dragspelarens Son".
The novel has been reviewed in two major Swedish newspapers. In Dagens Nyheter, critic Ingrid Elam notes how "Bernardo Atxaga's novel reflects the history of a town through one person's life". "It's a wonderful book", says Elam, who adds that Atxaga has succeeded in writing a consummate novel and compares the town of Obaba to Yoknapatawpha County, William Faulkner's fictional county.
Expressen also praised the author and his work.
"Dragspelarens son" is the fourth Atxaga novel to be translated into Swedish, following "Obabakoak" (1994), "Den ensamme mannen" ("The Lone Man", 1996) and "Dessa himlar" ("The Lone Woman", 1996).
