This past spring the Cervantes Institute hosted a lecture series in Madrid entitled The Iberian Space for Languages.
Bernardo Atxaga was the first to speak, with a presentation called "The Float and the Anchor; Writing in Basque today". The video of the event can be viewed on the Cervantes Institute's web page.
Following Atxaga's presentation of his perspective from the Basque language and the Basque Country, writers and researchers from other languages such as Catalan, Galician and Asturian made their presentations. The complete program and the videos of all six lectures are available on the Internet.
The lecture series was held in Madrid, where the Cervantes Institute has its headquarters, and was presented and moderated by Juan Cruz and Javier Rioyo. In addition to Atxaga, the other presentations in the series were given by María Antonia Martín Zorraquino (Spanish), Carlos Reis (Portuguese), Xosé Henrique Monteagudo (Galician), Teresa Cabré Monné (Catalan), and Ramón de Andrés (Asturian).
