New releases in the United Kingdom, the United States and Israel
2008 will see the following releases of Atxaga’s work: the publication of “The Accordionist’s Son” (“El hijo del acordionista”) in Great Britain and the United States, the publication of “The Lone Man” (“El hombre solo”) in Israel, and the reissue of “Obabakoak” in English.

As noted previously, “The Accordionist’s Son”, the recently published English version of “El hijo del acordeonista”, is being very well received in the United Kingdom. Here are some recent reviews.

Bernardo Atxaga wins the Grinzane Cavour Prize
Bernardo Atxaga has won the 2008 Grinzane Cavour prize for his novel “The Accordionist’s Son”. The Grinzane award is one of the best-known in Italy.

“The Accordionist’s Son” (translation of “El hijo del acordeonista”) has just been published in the United Kingdom. Initial reviews of the novel have been very favorable.

“Debout dans Babel”, Language in Europe
Ons Erfdeel has just published a volume about the languages in Europe which collects the testimonies of 16 writers in 16 different languages, including Bernardo Atxaga and Basque.

Opening Lecture at UPV Summer Courses
Bernardo Atxaga gave the opening lecture at the University of the Basque Country’s summer courses this past June. The text is now available in the web site’s Texts section.

“Racconti di montagna” published (Einaudi, 2007)
Einaudi has just published “Racconti di montagna” (Mountain Stories), a collection of short stories which includes Bernardo Atxaga.

“Harmonikaspillerens søn” (Samleren, 2007)
Coinciding with the Frankfurt Fair, the Danish version of “The Son of the Accordionist,” published by Samleren, has been released.
