Bernardo Atxaga has won the 2008 Grinzane Cavour prize for his novel "The Accordionist's Son". The Grinzane award is one of the best-known in Italy.
The Grinzane Cavour Prize jury announced this year's winners list this past weekend.
The award for foreign novel was given to Bernardo Atxaga for Il libro del mio fratello ("The Accordionist's Son").
Along with Atxaga, two other non-Italian writers have received the prize: German *Ingo Schulze, for "Vite nuove" and Russian *Ljudimila Ulickaja for "Sinceramente vostro Surik".
From the three winners, a super winner will be announced in June at the ceremony that will be held in Grinzane Cavour, near Turin.
The Grinzane Prize has been awarded every year in Grinzane Cavour (Piedmont) since 1982. The prize is internationally renowned and in some cases has been the precursor to a Nobel Prize, as in the case of Jose Saramago.
