A new French edition of "Behi euskaldun baten memoriak" ("Memoires of a Basque Cow") was published this past January ("Mémoires d'une vache". La Joie de Lire, 2012).
The novel Memoires of a Basque Cow (titled Behi euskaldun baten memoriak in its original Basque) was written for young audiences by Bernardo Atxaga in 1991. The first French language edition, Mémoires d'une vache, was published in 1994 by Gallimard.
The second French edition of the novel has just been published by La Joie de Lire, a publishing house that specializes in literature for children and young people.
Memoires of a Basque Cow is one of Bernardo Atxaga's best known novels. This short novel, aimed at a young audience, was first published in 1991 by Pamiela. In 1994 it was selected by the International Board on Books for Young People for its Honor List, and it was recommended in Germany in November and December of 1995 by German radio and Focus magazine. A German CD version was produced as well (Radio Bremen and Pollux-Audio in Altberliner Verlag. 2000 Berlin-Munchen). Since its initial publication over 20 years ago, it has been translated into 12 languages, and it is listed among the 1001 Children's Books You Must Read Before Growing Up.
