Basque language and culture will have a leading presence at the University of Oxford

Basque language and culture will play a significant role at the XV Forum for Iberian Studies to be held at the University of Oxford on 20, 21 and 22nd of June. 18 Basque speakers will take part in this outstanding forum: 16 out of them will discourse on Basque subjects, and 6 of them will actually give their lecture in Basque language. One of the keynote speakers will be Basque writer Bernardo Atxaga. It is the first time Basque culture has such a notable participation at this university.
Xabier Paya, lecturer of the Etxepare Basque Institute -an organization created by the Basque Government to encourage the international diffusion of the Basque language (euskara) and Basque artists of all disciplines-, has been one of the organizers of the event.
Mari Jose Olaziregi, Director for the Promotion and Diffusion of the Basque Language at Etxepare Basque Institute will give one of the Basque lectures in Oxford.
Catalan, Galician, Spanish, English and Portuguese languages will also take part at the Oxford forum, together with Basque.
