Publishers Weekly lists Seven Houses in France as one of the best works of fiction of 2012. This is more welcome news for Atxagas novel, which has been well received in the United States.
In recent weeks we've been sharing the positive reviews of Bernardo Atxaga's latest novel, which was recently published in the US. The latest praise comes this weekend from Publishers Weekly, which included Seven Houses in France on its list of Best Books of 2012. Publishers Weekly is one of the best known and influential literary magazines in North America, and its Best Book lists are closely followed by much of the American reading public.
Atxaga's novel appears on the fiction list, and it's the only book not originally written in English. The Basque writer shares the list with other well-known authors such as Alice Munro, Andrew Miller, Jeet Thayil and Amanda Coplin.
Seven Houses in France was translated into English by Margaret Jull Costa and published in the US by Graywolf Press in September of this year. Prior to the North American edition, the novel was published in the UK (Harvill Secker, 2011), where it was also warmly received. This week the paperback edition of the novel will be released in the UK.
