A story by Bernardo Atxaga, "Pirpo and Chanberlán, Murderers" ("Pirpo eta Txanberlain hiltzaileak" in its original Basque), has been selected as one of the best European works of short fiction for 2013. The story appears in the volume "Best European Fiction 2013", edited by Aleksandar Hemon.
"Pirpo and Chanberlán, Murderers" was first published in Basque in the novel The Accordionist's Son (Soinujolearen Semea, Pamiela, 2003), and this year the short story was re-published in English as a stand-alone piece in The Paris Review, one of the most prestigious English-language literary magazines.
After being published in The Paris Review, it was selected for inclusion in the volume Best European Fiction 2013, a collection of the year’s best short fiction, edited by Aleksandar Hemon.
