Bernardo Atxaga has been awarded the National Prize for Spanish Literature 2019 for “his fundamental contribution to the modernization and international dissemination of the Basque and Spanish languages,” according to the jury.

“Nevada Days” finalist in the 2019 PEN America Literary Awards
PEN America has announced the finalists for the 2019 PEN America Literary Awards. This years awards will confer more than $370,000 to writers and translators whose exceptional literary works were published in 2018. Bernardo Atxaga’s Nevada Days is one of the works nominated for the Translation Prize.

The longlists for the 2018 PEN Literary Awards recognize the best works published in the United States during the year. Bernardo Atxaga’s Nevada Days is one of the works nominated for the Translation Prize. The shortlist will be released this week, and the winners of the various award categories will be announced on February 26.

Bernardo Atxaga awarded the 2017 Liberpress Prize for Literature
This past weekend the award ceremony was held for the 2017 Liberpress prizes, an international prize that is awarded each year by the Regional Council of Girona, Catalonia. Among this year’s winners was writer Bernardo Atxaga, who received his prize for “a body of literature that is filled with sensitivity, originality and richness.”

The Adventures of Shola winner of the Marsh Award
Several weeks ago we wrote that The Adventures of Shola (Pushkin, 2013), the English translation of Las aventuras de Xola, had been selected as a finalist for the Marsh Award, and yesterday we received the news that the 2015 winner is indeed the book written by Bernardo Atxaga and translated by Margaret Jull Costa.

The English translation of Bernardo Atxagas novel Seven Houses in France (original title Zazpi etxe Frantzian) is one of the finalists for the Oxford-Weidenfeld Translation Prize, an award that honors the years best translations into English. Margaret Jull Costas outstanding translation has been chosen as one of six finalists.
